HUNT FOR LEADERSHIP.
HUNT FOR PROGRESS.
HUNT FOR SOMERSET.
Somerset native William Hunt is a proud veteran, a lifelong public servant, and a devoted leader who has dedicated more than three decades to the safety, growth, and well-being of this community. Now, he’s ready to serve his hometown in a new way — as mayor of the City of Somerset.
A Life of Service
After graduating from the U.S. Air Force Police Academy with honors, William began a nearly 28-year career in law enforcement with the Somerset Police Department. For seven of those years, he led the department as chief of police, earning statewide respect and recognition for his leadership and professionalism. In 2020, the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police named him Chief of the Year — the state’s highest professional honor in law enforcement. He later served as the association’s president.
Beyond the badge, William has been a trusted voice on boards and advisory councils throughout Kentucky. His service includes roles with the Kentucky League of Cities, the U.S. Attorney’s Eastern District Executive Committee, the Kentucky 911 Advisory Council, and the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He is also a graduate of the FBI’s National Command Course and holds the highest certification given to law enforcement executives by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council — Law Enforcement Chief Executive.
Leading Community Development
Today, William serves as the Director of Community Development for the City of Somerset, where he helps guide the city’s comprehensive plan, contributes to budget and capital improvement planning and supports emergency services. He plays a key role in shaping the city’s vision for growth — working hand-in-hand with residents, organizations, and state and local government partners.
He also serves on the Somerset-Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, further strengthening his connection to the region’s business and civic leadership, and is a graduate of the 2021 class of Leadership Kentucky.
Champion for Veterans, Law Enforcement, and Mental Health
William’s campaign is built on a foundation of support for those who serve. He is a member of Attorney General Russell Coleman’s Peer Support Working Group, where he works to advance mental health resources for first responders. He also serves on the board of the Lake Cumberland Military Suicide Prevention Coalition.
His deep involvement in these initiatives reflects his unwavering belief that strong communities are built by supporting the people who dedicate their lives to protecting them — including veterans, military families, law enforcement officers, and first responders.
Community Roots and Family Values
William is a deacon and active member of First Baptist Church of Somerset, where he serves on the security team. He also volunteers his time with organizations like Habitat for Humanity, the American Cancer Society, and the Somerset Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and is a member of the Pulaski County Housing Coalition.
William and his wife, Carla, have been married for 32 years. Together they’ve raised four children — Skyler (and daughter-in-law Morgan), Colson, Ava, and Emerye — and have built a life grounded in faith, family, and love for their community.
Why He’s Running
William is running for mayor because he believes in servant leadership — leadership that listens, shows up, and builds trust. His platform is centered on:
Leadership rooted in experience and compassion
Government that is service-first, transparent and accessible
A continued focus on community development and progress
Support for public safety and those who serve
“This campaign is about Somerset’s people. It’s about continuing to build a community where our children want to live, work, and raise their own families, where people care about one another and are dedicated to being good neighbors. I’m running for mayor because I love Somerset, and I’m ready to keep moving it forward.”
